Validity and Reliability on Emergency Preparation and Response in the Essay

Validity and Reliability on Emergency Preparation and Response in the World of Corporate Security - Essay Example In the context of my research, this means that I have to ask a content expert if my instrument in gathering data looks valid. Similarly, this may be undertaken by asking potential respondents about the face validity of my instrument through a pilot run of the survey. Yet still another measure of validity is content validity. In this type of validity, I am bound to do a content validity check and ask experts in the field of corporate security on their opinion about the instrument – that is, if they think that the instrument will be able to measure what I set it out to measure. Content validity has two subtypes, predictive validity and concurrent validity. One way of checking the predictive validity of my research tool is to see if it can predict other variables that are â€Å"logically related† to those which are measured by the instrument. If it does, that means that the instrument I constructed is content valid. On the other hand, concurrent validity works the same way as predictive validity; however, the measure of this is logical correlations with other variables that are assumed to be associated with those measured in the tool. Finally, I can also do a construct validity check. For example, if I am measuring the variables emergency preparation and response, they should correlate with other related constructs in an anticipated manner if my instrument does have construct validity.

The Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria - Essay Example The group is a leading concern for U.S policymakers. Boko Haram’s declaration that it has instituted an Islamic caliphate has stirred up international concerns over the insurgents’ brisk ascent in Nigeria (Smith, 2014). Policymakers should refrain from categorizing Boko Haram as simply another enemy in the war against international terrorism. Although the group’s activities are principally local, if allowed to grow in magnitude, the consequences could be dire for the entire international system. Â  The United States government designated Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order (E.O) 13224 on November 14, 2013 (Smith, 2014). These designations are a crucial step in the comprehensive approach towards countering the impact of Boko Haram. The Boko Haram rebellion is an express consequence of chronic poor governance from the federal and state governments of Nigeria that has resulted in the political marginalization of various regions in Northeast Nigeria (Smith, 2014). The region’s accelerating state of poverty further worsens the situation. The rebel movement has instituted several attacks in the northeastern region of Nigeria and has gone as far as kidnapping young females (Smith, 2014). The Nigerian government, under the leadership of former President Jonathan Goodluck, made limited progress towards handling the political situation (Smith, 2014). The United States remains profoundly conce rned about the situation. The United States has policies in place that supports the sharing of information, as well as programs aimed at supplying affirmative alternatives to societies at risk of radicalization and terrorist recruitment (Smith, 2014). The United States has the remarkable capacity in its military to protect its welfare around the globe.

CPM in Hong Kong Essay Example for Free

CPM in Hong Kong Essay 1. What do you consider to be your most important accomplishments? Please describe one personal accomplishment. The most important personal accomplishment so far is my significantly improved interpersonal skills. The accomplishment can be effectively described through a specific incident that occurred when I was working in the CA department of ABN AMRO. Volkswagen which was an important client for our bank was very much concerned about the many clauses in our standard documents because of its internal controls. It preferred to use its own documents and threatened to withdraw the deal if our bank did not accept it. This was a unique situation for us as it had never happened in ABN AMRO before. I undertook the task to resolve this issue through interactions with legal department, banking department and the CPM in Hong Kong. To begin with I reviewed the preconditions and transaction procedures stated in the documents of Volkswagen and communicated with legal department to ensure that the clauses were as per the laws of Taiwan. I carried out a few modifications after seeking the opinion of the client, the banking department and the CPM in Hong Kong. After several meetings and telephone conferences with all the concerned people we were finally able to reach a common consensus. Finally I was successful in getting all the nonstandard documents approved by Credit Risk Officers and signed by the client. We were able to achieve our goal under tremendous time pressure because I was able to monitor the schedules, politely remind colleagues for their prompt feedback and refined the documents till they were perfect meeting the requirements of both the client and the bank. The entire process has greatly improved my interpersonal skills. 2. Why are you applying to the Carlson Full-Time MBA Program? I will also help in recruiting more and more students from the school as and when the opportunities arise. I place a great importance on all contributions I plan to make both as a student and an alumnus. I am very hardworking, trust worthy, open minded and friendly person. I also strongly believe that one can improve by helping others whenever there is an opportunity. I feel that life is too precious to waste in negative thoughts and one should contribute their best. So I am sure that I possess all the qualities and thoughts to be effective in the above two roles.

Characteristics Of Globalisation Economics Essay

Characteristics Of Globalisation Economics Essay Since the early 1960s a large number of theories on foreign direct investment(FDI) have emerged. This proliferation was to a large extent, due to Hymer (1976),and the subsequent recognition that FDI is a manifestation of market imperfection and firm specific advantages. This is the implicit and explicit assumption in most modern theories. The multiplicity of factors involved in production, combined with barriers to the free movement of goods and services, together with the differences in production environment, are all reasons for also been an increasing number of studies regarding other modes of foreign investment. These new forms of FI activities such as join venture , licensing, franchising, etc seem to have taken on an increasingly important role in recent years everywhere, including developing countries (Oman,1984). Foreign direct investment (FDI ) is the vehicle by which firms achieve their strategic objectives. Accompany must posses some asset such as product and process technology or management and marketing skills that can be used beneficially in the foreign affiliate in order to invest in production in foreign markets. According to Kindleberger(1969) , For direct investment to thrive there must be some imperfection in markets for goods or factors, including among the latter technology. Or some interference in competition by government or by firms, which separates markets. The industrialized nations have remained the major contributor as well as the major recipient of FDI though FDI flows to the developing world have more than doubled between 1990 and 1999 . According to Chakrabarti (2002) in 1999 , nearly 58percent of 30 global FDI flows went to the industrial countries ,37 per cent to developing countries , and just 5 per cent to the transition economies of eastern Europe. FDI embodies two typical assets : first ,capital and second ,technology or a number of intangible advantages. So, FDI is more likely to be important in industries with significant firm-specific ,intangible ,knowledge-based assets. Foreign direct investment contributes most to the development process whn affiliate is wholly owned and fully integrated into the global operations of the parent company. Once the parent investors commit themselves to incorporate the output from host country into a larger strategy to meet global or regional competition-there is evidence of a dynamic integration effect, which provides newer technology , more rapid technological upgrading ,and closer positioning along the frontier of best management practises and highest industry standards , than any other methods for the host economy to acquire such benefits. There is evidence of more intensive coaching for supplier in quality control, managerial efficiency , and marketing than any other means for firms in the local econom y to gain these skills (Nunuez,1990). FDI will improve competitiveness and, thus, create employment and increase the welfare of the host nation (Dunning, 1994). This is a result of inward investment increasing the number of entrants in the indigenous industry which forces all competitor firms in the industry to become more competitive by reducing costs and improving efficiency and quality. Much FDI activity is achieved by way of a joint venture between a foreign company and an indigenous company and this may bring advantages such as risk diversification, capital requirement reductions and lower start-up costs (Perlmutter and Heenan, 1986). Indirect impact will manifest itself in the creation of spillovers and linkages typically in suppliers and customers whereas the dynamic impact will affect the competitive environment. Inward investment is likely to stimulate the production of global competitors in the recipient country (UN,1995). Market size and growth, barriers to trade, wages, production, transportation and other costs, political stability, psychic distance and host governments trade and taxation regulations, performance requirements, cultural distance, GDP per capita and infrastructure are factors affecting FDI location (Dunning, 1993). While economic growth, and technology transfer to the host country are important consequences of FDI, development of technological infrastructure and human capital are critical prerequisites, and so antecedents for FDI (Noorbakhsh and Paloni, 2001). Moreover, while psychic distance has been pertinent so far in FDI decisions (UNCTAD, 1997; UN, 1998), its importance might gradually reduce with increasing globalization and development of new/digital economy. According to Sethi et al. (2002 p. 701), institutional and strategic factors into theory . . . need to be considered in tandem to explain the change in trend of FDI flows. The inflow of FDI includes a raise in the production base, the introduction of new skills and technologies and the creation of employment. Foreign investors increase productivity in host countries and FDI is often a catalyst for domestic investment and technological progress. Increased competition associated with the entry of an MNE upgrades the competence and product quality in national companies, and opens up possibilities for export (Ahn and Hemmings, 2000).

Causes of Sexual Dysfunctions Essay -- Biology Essays Research Papers

Causes of Sexual Dysfunctions "Sexual dysfunctions are an important public health concern, to which general health and emotional problems contribute" (10). What is a sexual dysfunction? A sexual dysfunction is any condition that inhibits someone's ability to enjoy sex. Some common sexual dysfunctions are: hypoactive desire disorder (low sex drive), hyperactive sexual disorder (high sex drive), sexual aversion disorder, lack of lubrication (females), impotence (male erectile disorder), premature ejaculation, vaginismus (prolonged contractions of the vaginal wall that cause painful intercourse), or failure to orgasm during sex (8). In a study of happily married couples, 14% of men and 15% of women reported that they were either not very satisfied or not at all satisfied with their sex lives. In another study by Laumann in 1992, it was found that the prevalence of sexual dysfunction is 43% in women and 31% in men (10). Are these numbers surprising? What is causing this lack of sexual fulfillment? Did you ever wonder why sexual desire varies from person to person? Or why and how your sexual drive can change over time? Did you ever wonder what causes things to go wrong sexually - sexual dysfunctions? What is controlling YOUR sexual desire? Innervations of the organs of sexuality are mediated primarily through the autonomic nervous system (12). The autonomic nervous system is the part of the vertebrate nervous system that regulates involuntary action, as of the intestines, heart, and glands, and that is divided into the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system (1). It is generally assumed that the parasympathetic system activates the process of erection via impulses that pass through the pelvic splan... ... 4) HEAD INJURY AND SEXUALITY http://www.medlit.net/guests/Abstracts/Head-inj.htm 5)EMOTIONAL MEMORY AND THE AMYGDALA http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~shamann/amygdala.html 6)Kluver-Bucy Syndrome http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~gjdlab/Dar.html 7)Limbic System http://www.placidity.net/neuro/page/11sect/0.shtml 8)Sexual Dysfunction http://www.cogs.susx.ac.uk/users/andyf/teaching/clinical/sexdysfunction.pdf 9)Sex and states of consciousness http://www.innerworlds.50megs.com/sex_ascs.htm 10)Sexual Dysfunction Secondary to Depressive Disorders http://www.mmhc.com/jgsm/articles/JGSM9904/bartlik.html 11)What causes behavior? http://www.science.mcmaster.ca/Psychology/psych2f03/lecture11.doc 12)Sexual Dysfunction Following Injury:Time for Enlightenment and Understanding http://www.neuroskills.com/index.html?main=tbi/sex-discussion.shtml

Organizational Plans Essay

Many organizations design and implement plans that are put into action to ensure that each department of a company is running as efficiently and as effectively as possible. There are three main plans that organizations use to assist managers with the tasks of achieving their goals; strategic planning, tactical planning, and operational planning. Strategic planning is the broad overview of goals and strategies made by top-level management, which are set for the long-term future. Tactical planning is taking these long-term goals and breaking them down into more specific and direct objectives. â€Å"Operational planning identifies the specific procedures and processes required at lower levels of the organization.† (Bateman & Snell, 2011). All three of these planning procedures are crucial in the success of an organized and successful company. In addition, a business might want to set up a contingency plan. A contingency plan will come into action if any of the prior plans should fail. If we take a look at Subaru of America, we can see that their structure depends on these three organizational plans. This vast of an organization needs as much planning as possible because there is such a variety of departments and management alike, there need to be plans set in place so that the company can operate as one complete unit. Using the strategic plan, Subaru of America is able to let its top-level managers make decisions for future business. Using the tactical plan, the strategic plan is broke down between departments and has specific goals and deadlines. These goals are then passed onto floor managers who in turn put the goals and strategies into action. These goals can either be â€Å"single-use,† or on going day-to-day tasks. References Bateman, T.
