Strategic Planning A strategic plan is a process adopted by the management of an entity to meet specific goals and objectives within a given time frame. It clearly defines the objectives of the entity and assesses the internal and external environment. Strategic planning takes place through a series of steps. Development of visions, missions, goals and objectives are but some of the critical steps that are involved in the process of planning. To attain these objectives, the entity devises several procedures. An analysis of changes occurring in both the external and internal environment is critical in ensuring that a company attains its objectives. After obtaining information from the environment scan, managers are required to match the strengths of the organization to opportunities. The process of matching the strengths with the opportunities is known as strategy formulation. This process ensures that the entity can develop a competitive advantage (Roberts and Neilson, 2003). Budgeting process is one of key processes that enhance the planning process. Budgets as Tools for Planning In most entities, budgeting is a key element in financial management (Roberts and Neilson, 2003). The use of a budget assists managers to plan and utilize the company resources effectively. Clear understanding of principles of budgeting ensures that managers can formulate a comprehensive financial plan. Budgeting process is a microcosm element of strategic planning (Roberts and Neilson, 2003). Therefore, after yielding information from strategic planning, managers relate this information to the actual activities of the entity. This process is recognized as the operational plan and man agement usually finds a need to value the plan. Companies incur operational costs when they start trading. It is these costs among other costs that appear in the budget. Budgets are usually prepared based on the plan of the organization. Organizations use budgeting to monitor the cash flow of an entity. Cash flow forecast enables an entity to anticipate the inflows and outflows of cash. Information may be used to plan for future events. A budget maps out the resource flow in and out of the organization. By watching how the resources flow, it is possible for management to make sound decisions about an entity. Key performance indicators are the financial and non-financial measures used by business entities to help in evaluating the success of a business. The success of an entity is evaluated in relation to the long-term goals of the business. The main role of KPI is to give meaning to the objectives outlined by an entity. Therefore, key performance indicators give meaning to the strategic plan and objectives of an entity. The KPIs identified must relate to the strategic plan of the entity. This is because many aspects of an entity can be measured to show how a company performs. Before implementing KPIs, managers are required to consider several important factors. Implementation of KPIs requires an entity to consider several processes that affect the key elements of planning. KPIs are important in assisting an entity to attain its goals as they have been set in the strategic plan. Therefore, when establishing KPIs, managers must recognize that proper governance is the key to incorporating KPIs into the strategic plan. Moreover, managers need to understand that these performance indicators are what attract investors. In this light of events, KPIs do not need to be comprehensive but instead they should cover the particular areas of concern, especially areas that investors concentrate on. To ensure that the KPIs set by an entity remain valid for an extended period of time, contingency planning is necessary. Contingency planning ensures that the organization prepares well for a variety of situations that may occur in the future.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Role of Contingency Planning Contingency planning entails anticipating all the possible scenarios that may challenge a business entity and forming a comprehensive plan that may be used to avoid these challenges (Yuko and Karen, 2001). Instead of managers assuming that everything may be alright, they should identify contingencies and prepare for them. Use of contingency planning ensures that firms are better placed to cope with future uncertainties in the market. When managers plan for contingencies, they are able to avoid the shock that may come with market disability or natural causes. The use of contingency planning also reduces the risk of delays and indecision due to occurrence of an unusual event (Yuko and Karen, 2001). Unusual events in the market or within the organization may lead to the company halting its operations. In cases where the company planned for contingencies, it may continue its operations and maintain its profitability. Firms with contingent plans tend to react rationally in unplanned situations. When coming up with a contingent plan a firm should determine what reason behind the plan. Therefore preparation of a comprehensive, focused and practical plan require expertise and skills. Managers as well as employees are required to take part when formulating a contingent plan. They should identify the key processes and operations then incorporate them in a contingent plan to ensure the long-term survival of a firm is secure. Strategies Used to Monitor Employees Employer need to monitor the activities of employees to ensure that they are performing their tasks. Employers use different methods to monitor employees. Some employers use computerized system to collect, store, and analyze employee activities (Mishra and Mathers, 1998). In most cases employee monitoring is used in projecting the performance of the company. Good employee input and output may be assumed to cause good performance. Therefore, employers deem the act of monitoring employee s as important. Firms perform the process of monitoring employees using contracts. In this case, every employee is given a contract outlining his duties and responsibilities. At the end of the contract, an employee performance is evaluated against those set in a contract. If he or she has a good performance then the employment contract may be renewed. Another strategy of monitoring employee is being actively involved in the activities they undertake. From observing the processes used an employer can determine the level of competence. Managers use a variety of methods monitor employees. Each employer chooses the method that suits his or her entity. Conclusion Strategic planning, budgeting, employee monitoring, and performance indicators play an important role in operation planning. Companies should integrate all these elements in the operation plan to ensure that the company operations run smoothly. In addition to these elements, companies should incorporate contingency planning in o rder to safeguard its interests from future challenges. Sample Philosophy Essay on Art and Beauty

Sample Philosophy Essay on Art and BeautyA sample philosophy essay on art and beauty can help to increase your overall grade for the class. In order to get the maximum benefit from your essay you should be honest and factual.Although these are both very interesting subjects, one is generally interested in philosophical insight while the other is interested in visual art. The best way to include a comparison of these two is to show the beauty of one over the other. Both are art but only one is a beauty.A nice example of this is the Picasso painting 'Guernica'. You can compare its imagery with that of Picasso's famous 'Banlieue'. By simply comparing these two paintings you can help to educate your students on the difference between beauty and value. You will find that this painting depicts an armistice between Nazis and the French Resistance. This painting is not considered to be a great work of art by many. Nevertheless, many people have used this to raise awareness about the atrocitie s of war.An example of this same principle is when you discuss the value of the pictures in your exhibit with examples like 'The Mona Lisa'. When you bring the 'Mona Lisa' to a museum, you can be sure that people will stop and take a look at it. If it had been some other painting they would have ignored it.The 'banlieue' painting is showing a statement of value to the majority of people living in that neighborhood. It is their piece of the city and they are not having their art stolen. By comparing these two works you can easily educate your students that there is a big difference between beauty and value. In order to benefit from this essay, you must be able to explain the difference between art and beauty. The student who has a real interest in art is not necessarily a person who appreciates beauty in general. Therefore, you must be careful not to oversimplify the topic. This is the best way to bring the topic to life with short examples of both. Take advantage of the tools availabl e to you in order to understand both the art and the beauty.

3 Cases of Misplaced Modifiers

3 Cases of Misplaced Modifiers 3 Cases of Misplaced Modifiers 3 Cases of Misplaced Modifiers By Mark Nichol Modifying phrases are welcome additions to sentences that provide additional information, but when they are inserted awkwardly, they hinder meaning rather than enhance it. In the following sentences, the modifiers appear at the wrong point in the sentence; see discussions and revisions that clarify the intent of the informative phrases. 1. Smith told the man to close the doors while holding the weapon to his head. This sentence implies that the man was instructed to hold a weapon to his head and close the doors, but the man had a gun to his head when he was told to open the doors, so that key information should precede, not trail, the description of the task he was given (and switching the noun and the pronoun identifying the other person provides further clarity): â€Å"While holding the weapon to the man’s head, Smith told him to close the doors.† 2. She was only with Jones for four months because he was abusive. Technically, this sentence indicates that the woman remained with Jones for the sole reason that he was abusive, and she did so for four months. It could also be misread to imply that because of Jones’s abusive nature, the woman was with him and no one else for four months (though that reading is most likely if only follows Jones.) However, the intended meaning is that her time with him was minimal, so only should immediately precede the reference to the time frame: â€Å"She was with Jones for only four months, because he was abusive.† (Better yet, write, â€Å"Because Jones was abusive, she was with him for only four months.†) 3. As a young man, Jones recalls the 1945 parade that honored Smith as an event he will never forget. Using â€Å"as a young man† to introduce the recollection implies that it occurred when Jones was a young man, although the tense form of recall is wrong. For an unambivalent reading, Place the parenthetical phrase â€Å"as a young man† after â€Å"Jones recalls†: â€Å"Jones recalls, as a young man, being at the 1945 parade that honored Smith as an event he will never forget.† Better yet, recast the sentence entirely: â€Å"Jones says he will never forget when he, as a young man, witnessed the 1945 parade honoring Smith.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Book Review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Book Review - Essay Example Allen& Jensen (1995) Pg 5-8, claim that freedom of speech is not supreme in any country and is subject to restrictions such as slander, libel, incitement or obscenity. In this regard, this paper aims to review a book that deals with the First Amendment and some aspects of freedom of expression, the overarching themes and key points made in the chapter, as well response grounded on what I have learned this far about free expression. In addition, I will also explain some of concerns and questions raised by the material. In chapter 3 of Allen & Jensen (1995), pg 11-16 it talks about the first amendment of the United States in terms of the prohibiting the federal, municipal or state to establish religion or have a preference for one religion over another. Subsequently, this law has been interpreted differently in the American history, for example, some say that it separates church and state, in addition to preventing the government from establishing a church. Additionally, it explains th at as long the freedom of religion law does not target a particular religion, then it does not violate the Clause Free Exercise. The congress is also said to have passed an Act called the Religious Freedom Restoration, in which it aimed to restore the standard of religion interest, also known as â€Å"Compelling Interest†. ... He argues that the Act is based on the first amendment unconstitutionally. However, the freedom of speech is recognized in article 19 under Human Rights Universal Declaration as well as in human rights international law in the Covenant on political and civil rights international. Chapter 3 of Allen& Jensen (1995), Pg 21-22, acknowledges that, the Article states that everyone has the right to hold opinions without any interferences, as well as the right to freedom of expression. Therefore, this right includes the freedom to receive, impart, and seek ideas and information of all kinds, either in oral, writing or print. The article also explains that the exercise of such rights also carries unique responsibilities and duties and can therefore be subject to restrictions if necessary. Allen& Jensen (1995), Pg. 22-30 also notes out that under the article 19, the concepts of freedom of press adopted Article 11, freedom of expression stating that free communication of opinions and ideas is t he most important right of every human being. Therefore, every citizen may print, speak, and write accordingly, but should be responsible for any abuse of freedom as law defines. The freedom of expression and speech is recognized in regional and international law of rights, in which the right is confined in Article 19 of international political and civil rights. Allen& Jensen (1995), Pg30- 35 argue that freedom of expression is understood as multi-functional rights which include not only the right to disseminate, or express ideas and information but other aspects like the right to impart, seek and receive information and ideas. Nevertheless, regional, national, and international

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass Essay -- Narrative Life Fr

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The tone established in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is unusual in that from the beginning to the end the focus has been shifted. In the beginning of the narrative Douglass seems to fulfill every stereotypical slavery theme. He is a young black slave who at first cannot read and is very naà ¯ve in understanding his situation. As a child put into slavery Douglass does not have the knowledge to know about his surroundings and the world outside of slavery. In Douglass’ narrative the tone is first set as that of an observer, however finishing with his own personal accounts.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When first introduced to Douglass and his story, we find him to be a young slave boy filled with information about those around him. Not only does he speak from the view point of an observer, but he speaks of many typical stereotypes in the slave life. At this point in his life, Frederick is inexperienced and knows nothing of the pleasures of things such as reading, writing, or even the rights everyone should be entitled to. Douglass knowing hardly anything of his family, their whereabouts, or his background, seems to be equivalent to the many other slaves at the time. As a child Frederick Douglass sees the injustices around him and observes them, yet as the story continues we begin to see a change.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  With the progression of time we find Frederick Douglas begin to shift the tone to a focus within himself. The story begins to c...
